Q: What are "slots"?
A: They represent the available space on your DriveCast account. One slot it's filled by the following actions: subscribing a podcast, setting a radio recording, adding a cloud folder and adding a link to a file.
Q: How can I gain more slots?
A: You can invite friends clicking on "Friends" button. You'll gain 5 more free slots for each friend who joins DriveCast, up to 50 total slots.
Q: Why are my recordings suspended and set to "inactive"?
A: We set a recording to "inactive" when it has not been played, downloaded or modified for at least 1 month. You can re-activate each recording selecting "Edit" from the toolbar and clicking "Activate" button.
DriveCast player FAQs
Q: Which items can be played with the integrated player?
A: Live radio streams from DriveCast's radio list (VLC browser plugin is required for most of them).
MP3 audio files and MP4 (H264) or FLV video files can be played on almost all platforms (HTML5 or Flash plugin).
OGG (Theora) video files can be played in supported browsers (like recent versions of Firefox).
Q: The player says the file I'm trying to play is not reachable, what does it mean?
A: This error occurs when a media file in your library can't be played because it's no longer available. In most cases the file is a podcast episode that has been removed and/or renamed.
Another common problem is a temporary issue on the server that hosts the file.
Q: The player says the radio I'm trying to play is not reachable, what does it mean?
A: Sometimes web streams can mess up and be unavailable for a while. If the problem last too long contact us, we'll check if the stream has changed location.
Q: The player says there's a plugin error, what does it mean?
A: Plugins can have problems with certain media types or browsers/platforms. We are making a great effort to give a wider and stable support, but sometimes this is out of our control.
For example, we rely on VLC browser plugin for radio streaming, because it supports a really large variety of media formats, but the VLC plugin for Mac OSX 64 bit still doesn't exists. If you are on Mac OSX 10.6+ (Snow Leopard, Lion) and your browser is 64 bit (Safari or Firefox 4+) you should run the browser in 32 bit mode to use the VLC plugin. Or you can give Google's Chrome a try. It's a known issue and we're all waiting for an update from the VLC staff.
Anyway browsers and plugins are often updated, so check out for new releases.
DriveCastUSB FAQs
Q: How can I use DriveCast with my portable USB device?
A: See the help page "how to use portable devices".
Q: Help! Why does DriveCastUSB delete my content from the device on which it is installed?
A: DriveCastUSB software isn't a simple "downloader"; it is a "synchronizer". It keeps aligned the content of My Media folder on the device with the online Library. During the sync process, elements removed from the online Library will be cancelled on the device too. Anyway you can choose to copy or move content out of My Media folder to keep them as long as you want.
